O’Mara: Donations from racists are not accepted

NEED TO KNOW
  • George Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder for shooting Trayvon Martin
  • Zimmerman's attorneys says most of people donating to defense fund also support the Second Amendment

George Zimmerman's attorney says that the majority of his client's defense fund donations have come from supporters of the Second Amendment.

Watch the video to see Mark O'Mara tell In Session correspondent Jean Casarez that if the donors identify themselves as racists, they return the money to them.

“We’ve been criticized because -- does it [donations] come from racists? Does it come from white racists? I don’t know -- if they identity themselves as racists, we don’t take their money and it goes back to them,” he says.

He believes this case has brought out racists on both sides.

O'Mara says he would welcome a conversation about the treatment of young black males in our justice system and knows personally "how the system may treat different demographics," however he believes that the Zimmerman trial is not the place for it.

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. He has pleaded not guilty.
