Outrage over NYC subway death photo

NEED TO KNOW

  • Photographer slammed for not helping victim

People are asking why a New York newspaper decided to run a shocking photo showing a man on the subway tracks just seconds before a train hit and killed him (HLN has decided not to show the photo at this time).

The pic was plastered on the notoriously coarse front page of the New York Post along with the headline: "Pushed on the subway track, this man is about to die," followed by the word "DOOMED".

Ki-Suck Han is the man in the image, seen standing on the tracks with a train bearing down on him. Now, people are slamming the photographer, R. Umar Abbasi for taking pictures rather than trying to help.

When reached by HLN partner CNN, Abbasi said he would only talk to the network if he was paid. He did tell the New York Times that he's being unfairly accused and he was firing the flash on his camera to warn the driver.

Ki-Suck Han was allegedly shoved off the platform by a man police have arrested but not yet identified. There is video of the two men having a heated argument in the station before he ended up on the tracks. The man questioned in the incident "implicated himself," police said Tuesday night.

What do you think of the Post's decision to put the picture on their front page?
