18 injured in Massachusetts gas explosion

A gas explosion at a Springfield, Massachusetts strip club left 18 people injured early Friday evening. None of the injuries is reported to be life-threatening.

Mayor Dominic Sarno said the blast tore through Club Scores and damaged at least two dozen buildings nearby. People 10 miles away said they felt the blast.

There were no patrons in the club – it was evacuated after someone reported smelling gas. The explosion happened about an hour later.

Of the 18 injured, half were local firefighters, four were gas company employees, two were police officers, two were civilians and one was a municipal water and sewer department employee.

Officials are working to determined what caused the fire.
