Mystery explosion kills 2 in Indy neighborhood

NEED TO KNOW
  • Neighbors thought it was an earthquake or a bomb
  • Two people were killed
  • As many as 80 homes damaged

Survivors of a massive explosion in Indianapolis say it felt like a bomb went off in their neighborhood.

We still don't know what caused the blast that destroyed at least one home and damaged 80 more.  HLN affiliate WISH says as many as 30 of those are so badly damaged they may have to be torn down!

Jennifer Longworth and her husband were killed in the blast.  Longworth taught for 12 years at Southwest Elementary School.

The city is still investigating but have, so far, said that it was not a bomb or a meth lab and so far they have found no signs of a gas leak prior to the explosion.

Neighbors have stepped up to help provide housing, and food, for about two hundred people who are now out of their homes.
