Richard Sisk joined the military when he was just 17, two weeks after he graduated high school. He served in the Army for four years, including a deployment to Afghanistan in 2006. But then, he decided it was time for a change.
Richard went back to school, eventually transferring to Kennesaw State University in Georgia, to get his degree in sports management and communication. Even with a full class schedule, he found time to work at the university’s Veterans Resource Center, helping other vets like him navigate their transition to civilian life.
As a thank you for his service, HLN decided to give Richard something back. He and his wife, Angela, are expecting a baby in March. So we got in touch with Carousel Designs, a veteran-owned baby bedding company. Owners and West Point grads Jonathan Hartley and Allan Sicat surprised Richard and Angela with a gift certificate for $700 worth of baby bedding and accessories.
But that wasn’t the only surprise! Richard also needs an internship before he can graduate. So Turner Sports is setting him up with one this summer.
“I’m blown away! I don’t really know what to say right now other than thank you,” he said.
