No holding back in veep showdown

  • CNN/ORC poll shows Ryan is the winner
  • Obama happy with Biden's performance

Vice President Joe Biden wasted no time in last night's debate, tearing into Mitt Romney's controversial remark about the 47% of Americans who rely on government support. Challenger Paul Ryan had a response ready: "I think the Vice President very well knows, that sometimes the words don't come out of your mouth the right way."

More people who watched last night thought Paul Ryan was the winner than gave the edge to Biden, according to a CNN/ORC poll -- but it was close:

  • 48% picked Ryan
  • 44% chose Biden

That's within the margin of error.

Mitt Romney called from a hotel room in North Carolina -- where he watched the debate -- to congratulate Representative Ryan.

The President watched from Air Force One and told reporters he was happy with Biden's performance.

On the air this morning: HLN's Jennifer Westhoven is fact checking statements from the debate on Morning Express with Robin Meade, and political analyst Jason Johnson is giving his take on he thinks who fared better. Also, HLN digital lifestyle expert Mario Armstrong is looking at trends that popped up online during the debate.
