George Zimmerman’s mother spoke publicly for the first time Monday on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight.
Gladys Zimmerman told Morgan that she believes that her son is innocent. The Zimmerman family has been in hiding since receiving threats after the February shooting. Gladys' interview was conducted in a shadow to conceal her identity for her safety.
Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to a second-degree murder charge for shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on February 26. Martin was returning from a convenience store and was unarmed. Zimmerman told police he shot the teen in self-defense.
