Dr. Drew On Call

Driven by current events, "Dr. Drew" on HLN focuses on the human - and human behavior - at the center of the story.

Famed atty: Judge won't let Casey case get to jury

NEED TO KNOW
  • Zenaida Gonzalez, known as 'Zanny the Nanny', is suing Casey Anthony for defamation
  • Anthony originally blamed a woman named 'Zanny the Nanny' for taking Caylee

Casey Anthony is back in the news. She doesn't want to pay Zenaida Gonzalez anything if she loses the defamation case against the woman who claims she isn't "Zanny the Nanny."

At one time, Anthony said a woman named "Zanny" was behind Caylee’s disappearance, which led police to interview Zenaida Gonzalez. None of that was true. Zenaida believes she will always be linked to the case and is suing Anthony for defamation.

"This case is ridiculous,” famed criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos told HLN’s Dr. Drew Tuesday night. “I don’t think it even gets to trial. This judge has given every indication that he’s excluded everything except a statement between [Casey] and her mother … I don't think this judge lets this get to a jury -- certainly not on punitive damages.”

Dr. Drew airs Monday through Thursday on HLN at 9 p.m. ET.  Follow the show on Facebook and Twitter @DrDrewHLN.
