FORE! HLN gets former Marine in swing of things

  • Lance Cpl. Ryan Lord (Ret.) is making a new career in golf
  • He's training to teach the game to veterans
  • HLN, PGA team up to show Lord appreciation for his efforts

Ryan Lord doesn't mince words when describing the impact golf has had on him.

"[Golf] saved my life," he says.

Lord was a Marine Lance Corporal when he suffered a traumatic brain injury while serving in Iraq in 2003. Two years later, he retired. Post-military life was a struggle until he discovered the Golf For Injured Veterans Everywhere (GIVE) program in 2009. Now, he's training to become a PGA professional so he can teach golf to veterans himself.

Ryan's story inspired HLN and the PGA of America to honor him, as part of HLN's "Stories of Courage: The Give Back."
