Twenty one hours had passed from the moment teenager Melissa Duran was reportedly snatched from her family home until the moment she was rescued.
Police launched a massive search for her. But in the end, Duran saved her own life by using things she learned on the TV show “CSI”.
Would your kid know how to react in an emergency? Would you? That was the topic at hand Thursday night on HLN’s Dr. Drew.
“We have a number of things that we can use to keep our kids safe,” said former police detective Steve Kardian. “Background checks are an amazing thing to do. There are many online services. Check them out … security cameras are great, [as well as] a safe room in your home.”
He added, “[Those that are] young and trusting haven't developed the skills to deal with a predator. Have a blueprint for when the bad stuff happens, which is not the time to create a plan.”
