C.J. Stewart always dreamed of playing major league baseball. But he grew up in one of Atlanta’s most dangerous housing projects.
“I came home to a community that was destitute, but for us there was always hope,” Stewart says.
Through baseball, he earned a college scholarship and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs.
Now Stewart is helping other boys like him through his L.E.A.D. organization. He uses baseball to help young boys stay in school and earn college scholarships.
“It worked for me, so I know it can work for them,” he says.
Since 2007, 33 participants have graduated high school and enrolled in college.
