We had no idea Jordin Sparks had not seen the interview with Whitney Houston we showed her this morning. But it was clear by her immediate and emotional reaction that she wasn't expecting to hear the kind words Houston had for her and her 'Sparkle' co-stars.
"They were just perfect... for this project. Just absolutely perfect," said Houston in an interview shot months before her death in February, 2012.
Sparks told us she had seen interviews with Houston since filming wrapped on the movie, but not that one... and it brought her to tears. Not only because of the brief message but because of the date, "It's her birthday today," Sparks said, "So seeing her on that clip just now, I was really touched."
Sparks plays the title character in this remake that is based on the lives and careers of The Supremes. Houston plays her mother.
Sparkle opens in theaters August 17.
You'll hear more from Sparks this weekend on HLN when she tells Susan Hendricks why she would not want to be judge on American Idol!
