Operation Shower is a non-profit organization that aims to lend a hand to military moms-to-be by providing joyful baby showers to ease the burden of deployment.
First Lady Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden and Martha Stewart have all participated in Operation Shower events. And when we caught up with the group at a shower in California, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar was on hand. "It’s hard enough when your spouse leaves for WORK every day and you’re alone with a child," she said. "Imagine on top of it your husband could not come back… or could come back injured. I can’t imagine the extra pressure that puts on a mom-to-be."
Allan & Leah Sicat and Jonathan Hartley were a big part of this event. They're all West Point graduates and former Army officers. Their company, Carousel Designs (babybedding.com), has been involved in Operation Shower for over a year. Allen Sicat says, "military support is something we’re pretty passionate about. And being in the industry of baby bedding, partnering with Operation Shower, what they believe in... what they do, was just a natural fit for us."
Visit OperationShower.org for information about how you can get involved or about setting up a group baby shower for your unit.
