Workplace romances: Good or bad idea?

  • Dr. Drew: Proximity increases the probability that you're going to have a relationship
  • He adds, It's bothersome when a romance begins and there's a mismatch in the authority structure

Have you ever had sex with a co-worker?  A Men’s Health survey says 31-percent of women had an intimate relationship with a colleague.

“One of the consistent pieces of research that shows up is, that if you're going to be in a relationship with somebody, proximity, meaning being near that person, increases the probability that you're going to have a relationship with that person,” Dr. Drew explained. “So, if people are working or in school, naturally, a [relationship] will happen.”

Actress and model Claudia Jordan added, “I've done it once before a long time ago, and it was great at first because I was always at work. But then when it starts to go bad, it's not so good because you have to make your money. You can't go away.”

Dr. Drew also noted that it is bothersome when a romance begins and there's a mismatch in the authority structure.

“Those are bad times … the organization is at risk [and] you're exploiting somebody who's in a powerless position,” he said.
