  • She adds, 'I can't make any sense of it'

The ex-girlfriend of the man who allegedly chewed off 75% of a homeless man’s face in Miami last month spoke to HLN’s Dr. Drew Thursday night.

Yovanka Bryant, 27, says she views Rudy Eugene, who was 31 and whom she dated for four months, in a different light.

“He was very sweet and very affectionate to me and my children,” she told Dr. Drew. “I don't know of him being ever aggressive or anything to me.”

She added, “I can't make sense of it … there was no warning signs whatsoever.”

High-powered attorney Gloria Allred, who also appeared on the show, became Bryant’s lawyer to help people understand Eugene from Bryant’s point of view. The celebrity lawyer stated the two had Bible studies together and watched religious TV programs.

“The only thing that may make sense is if, in fact, the toxicology report -- that is not yet out, --comes back and says that somehow there was some kind of drug in his system that caused him to do what he did,” she said.

It will be at least two months before blood tests can determine if Eugene had any substances in his system.

Bryant concluded, “I will always love Rudy … he was never violent toward me, so I really can't peg him in [the same] light [the public views him].”

Dr. Drew airs Monday through Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on HLN. Follow the show on Twitter @DrDrewHLN.
