Jane’s Recycling Crusade

  • Jane gets her hands dirty for the environment
  • Jane sorts through NYC trash to find recyclables

Editor's Note: Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer and it’s the time of year when everyone starts heading outside to enjoy the fresh air and the warm weather. With that in mind, Jane Velez-Mitchell is proud to focus the entire hour of her show on Memorial Day on improving and maintaining one of our most precious resources: the environment.  Jane will be joined by our very special guest, Philippe Cousteau, as we highlight ways average people have been able to make a big difference.

Jane Velez-Mitchell gets her hands dirty (literally) to raise environmental awareness!  While walking around the streets of her hometown New York City, Jane is always disturbed to see trash cans overflowing with plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and other recyclables.  So she decided to do something about it and took to the streets with a shopping cart to sort the trash herself!  That’s right, she sifted through New York City street trash and pulled out tons of cans and bottles that can be recycled.

You don’t have to pull out your latex gloves and take to the streets like Jane did, but hopefully she’ll inspire you to think before you toss something you can recycle into the garbage.  Next time you find yourself with an empty plastic bottle in hand, think about the astonishing amount of recyclables Jane recovered.  Find a recycling bin, or wait until you get home and you can add it to your home recycling.

Please join Jane on the beautiful beaches of Southern California for a very special edition of Jane Velez-Mitchell, Memorial Day 7pm ET on HLN.
