Dr. Drew On Call

Driven by current events, "Dr. Drew" on HLN focuses on the human - and human behavior - at the center of the story.

Child found after 8 yrs; mom ‘happy, scared’

NEED TO KNOW
  • Texas woman arrested as a suspect in an alleged kidnapping of a boy eight years ago
  • Mother after boy found: ‘I was happy -- scared, because I don’t know if he was abused -- I didn’t know what happened’

When police told Auboni Champion-Morin that her now 8-year-old son Miguel Antonio Morin was in the custody of Texas Child Protective Services, she told HLN's Dr. Drew she was happy and scared because she didn’t know what had really happened to him.

The godmother of Miguel, Krystle Tanner of San Augustine, has been arrested as a suspect in this alleged kidnapping case. Tanner was reportedly babysitting the boy in her Houston home who was 8 months old at the time he and Tanner went missing.

Child Protective Services began investigating Tanner in August on allegations of negligently supervising her children and an unknown 8-year-old child who had been physically abused, police say.

On the night that her son and Tanner disappeared, Champion-Morin, who had five children, all under age 4, had reportedly asked Tanner to watch her son overnight.

Tanner, a high school student at the time, had to attend classes the next morning, but when Champion-Morin went to pick up her son that morning, he and Tanner were gone, Champion-Morin alleges.

Champion-Morin, who has yet to see Miguel, will undergo a blood test possibly this week to prove she is the biological mother.
