Police say 9-year-old Savannah Hardin died after being forced by her grandmother and step-mother to run three hours around the house as a punishment for sneaking a candy bar.
However, Dani Bone, the attorney for Savannah's grandmother, says his client did not kill her granddaughter.
"Miss Garrard loved her granddaughter as she loved all her other grandchildren and her children,” Bone told HLN's Dr. Drew. “Joyce and Savannah were extremely close and under no circumstances did Joyce Garrard cause the death of her grandchild.”
