Singer Roberta Flack, who attended Whitney Houston’s funeral this past Saturday, told Showbiz Tonight's A.J. Hammer how hard it was to see the late singer's mother, Cissy.
“It’s a kind of pain that can only be described as overwhelming," she said. "When you say devastating, awful, hard to bear, all of those things certainly can apply – it’s overwhelming.”
Flack is a close friend to the Houston family and has known Cissy for years, as she used to sing back-up for Flack on her first few albums.
When Roberta saw Cissy at the service, she said she broke down.“When Cissy came out of the church behind Whitney’s casket, I was standing right at the door,” said Roberta. “And she looked at me and I grabbed her face and kissed her. And she just broke down and so did I.”
Flack was emotional as she recounted the moment when Stevie Wonder sang at the funeral to honor Whitney, and says she was very moved by the words of Clive Davis and Kevin Costner.
