"Hey man, nice wrist-wear! Sup?"
Guys are starting to accessorize ... but the bracelets and handbags that their female fashionista counterparts are flaunting won't fly. It seems that when it comes to 'guycessories,' it's all in the name. Bracelets become 'wrist-wear' and a purse becomes a 'hold-all.'
The New York Times reports that sales of accessories for men's fashion and accessories could hit a 20 year high. Why? As the economy starts to turn around, men have more money to spend on bling. The men's fashion director at Saks Fifth Avenue tells the Times that after a long economic downturn, guys may be realizing that adding a little polish can make them look just a little more put-together at their current job or even give them an edge when it comes to getting a new one. These trends, which the Times says are coming from Japan and Italy, are starting to show up on American fashion blogs and on the runways at New York Fashion Week.
Bracel ... er, 'wrist wear' is especially popular. Look for simple bands of leather or rubber, typically dark colored with simple adornments and metal closures -- decidedly masculine -- something that might just peek out from under a long sleeve shift cuff, just enough to say, "I'm polished but not stuffy."
How about it guys? Are you accessorizing? What are you wearing? Why?
