For the past several weeks, shoppers at military base “exchanges” were able to send free Valentine’s to local VA hospitals, Fisher House locations and military retirement homes. The Exchange operates more than 3,100 facilities world wide where members of the Army and Air Force -- and their families -- can shop for goods and services while also supporting morale, welfare and recreation programs.

The “Valentines for Veterans” program runs from January to February 6. Shoppers can either fill out ready made cards or bring in their own. Then on Valentine’s Day they’re distributed to veterans who need some love.

Not everyone can shop at The Exchange but everyone can live up to the spirit of “Valentines for Veterans.” Brigadier General Fran Hendricks, the Exchange’s Deputy Commander, says civilians can simply thank a veteran today.

Do you have a neighbor, friend or co-worker who has served? Just take a moment to let them know you appreciate their service. He says “Your personal Valentine will be a fitting Salute to America’s troops and its Veterans.”
