They were four friends in a Chicago neighborhood. They went to school together. They played video games together. Now, three white teens are charged with a hate crime against their African-American friend.
Police say they attacked 17-year-old Joshua Merritt at one of the boys' homes in December. They allegedly put a noose around his neck, shouted racial slurs, and put a knife to the victim’s throat. Merritt says a call on one of the attacker’s cell phones may have saved his life.
