First Lt. Travis Manion was awarded the Silver Star after being killed in action in Iraq in 2007. Roughly three years after his death, his best friend, Navy SEAL Brendan Looney, was killed in Afghanistan. For Travis’ sister Ryan, it was like losing two brothers.
The Manion family exhumed their son’s body so he could be buried side-by-side with his best friend at Arlington National Cemetery. Ryan’s little daughter Maggie prays every night to be like uncle Travis. Even President Obama was so touched by the story that he spoke at their graves on Memorial Day, 2011.
Travis’ sister Ryan stopped by Morning Express with Robin Meade on January 26 to speak about the Travis Manion Foundation, which was created in honor of her brother. Ryan says, "The overriding goal of the Travis Manion Foundation is to honor the fallen by challenging the living." She travels the country speaking to young people to inspire them to leadership, as well as help veterans and families of the fallen.
The foundation also sponsors the 9/11 Heroes Run, which took place in over 30 cities last year.
