Nobody’s more disappointed Eddie Murphy dropped out as Oscar emcee this year than his buddy Chris Rock.
“I would have loved to have seen him host the Oscars,” Rock told HLN's Showbiz Tonight at the Sundance Film Festival, where’s he’s unveiling his film “2 Days in New York” (directed by French actress Julie Delpy). “I would have loved to have seen Eddie Murphy with a microphone. “
Murphy bowed out as host following the ouster of director Brett Ratner as show producer. It was Ratner who had persuaded Murphy to preside over the awards show for the first time.
But Rock’s got no problem with Murphy’s replacement.
Billy Crystal is “the greatest Oscar host of all time, and he’s going to knock it out of the park!” Rock said.
As for his own stint as Oscar host back in 2005, Rock may still be licking his wounds after being chastised on stage by Sean Penn for his biting jokes at the expense of Hollywood’s elite.
“People that weren’t really into that laughing thing didn’t quite get it,” Rock joked. “Maybe I didn’t make it for the room enough … I’d rather make the ushers laugh than the executives laugh because there’s way more ushers.”
With any luck Crystal, will have the ushers and execs holding their sides on Oscar night.
