HLN’s Nancy Grace said Thursday that she has a hard time believing that a 10-year-old boy charged with stabbing one of his best friends to death earlier this week deserves to be locked up.
The 10-year-old, whose name has not been released, appeared in juvenile court Thursday morning and pleaded not guilty to murder and felony assault charges in the death of 12-year-old Ryan Carter. According to the San Diego Union Tribune, the boy was ordered to remain in juvenile detention for his safety and for the welfare of the community.
“It’s very hard for me to take in a 10-year-old boy, and this is his friend, being charged with murder one, but that is the state of what is happening right now,” Grace said.
Neighbors told KFMB that the suspect had a history of anger and aggression, but Grace questioned whether the severity of his alleged prior bad acts justifies the consequences he is now facing.
“You’ve got to give me more than that if I’m going to put a 10-year-old in jail,” she said.
