More than 12-thousand Americans are bitten by dogs EVERY day. It's one of the leading causes of injury for children. But one teen is hoping to change the statistics in this week's "Breakthrough Women."
Kelly Voigt was bit by a neighborhood dog when she was 7-years-old. That attack resulted in about 100 stitches, plastic surgery & a battle with post traumatic stress disorder. But instead of letting all those hurdles get in her way, Kelly leapt over them and faced her fears head on. A doctor explained to her that the pain and anguish of that bite actually gave her an expertise that she could use to teach other kids how to read a dog's body language and protect themselves from an attack.
So at age 8 Kelly and her mom created the non-profit organization "Prevent The Bite." A presentation and lesson plan that has been seen by over 10 thousand students.
