Sammy Hagar talks alcoholism, Eddie Van Halen

“I went to rehab and never drank again,” rocker Sammy Hagar told Dr. Drew in an interview Monday.

“Eddie didn’t do that and Eddie keeps falling down and would be in denial … and the ’04 reunion was horrible … he was in really bad shape. It broke my heart.”

Hagar explains that he didn’t write his new book “Red: My Uncensored Life In Rock" to “throw anyone under the bus.” Dr. Drew tells Hagar that he didn’t get that from the book at all, rather, he got “a vivid reality about alcoholism.”

“I love Ed and I heard he’s doing great again, but, you know, Ed goes up and down,” Hagar continued. “He’s got the biggest heart in the world. I love the great days of Van Halen. The reunion was the only dirt in the book that I throw in the book."

Watch the full interview Monday night at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HLN.
