Jean Casarez is a correspondent for IN SESSION’s live daytime trial coverage, reporting from courthouses around the country. Casarez has covered legal proceedings involving Casey Anthony, NASA astronaut Lisa Nowak, Kobe Bryant, Robert Blake, O.J. Simpson, the Rhode Island nightclub fire, the civil rights trial of Edgar Ray Killen, the murder of Jon Benet Ramsey and Scott Peterson’s sentencing verdict. She also covered court proceedings involving Anna Nicole Smith in Florida and the Bahamas.
Casarez has been a guest and legal expert on national cable and network news shows, including HLN's Nancy Grace, CNN's Larry King Live and Anderson Cooper 360, NBC's The Today Show and CBS's The Early Show. She also occasionally fills in as a host on Nancy Grace.
Casarez, who is a member of the Nevada and Texas bars, is also a licensed attorney in the U.S. Southern District Court of Texas. She joined IN SESSION in January 2003 from KOLO-TV in Reno, Nev., where she was a weekend anchor and legal reporter. Prior to that, she produced the newsmagazine show First Edition and served as the City Hall reporter and fill-in anchor at KENS-TV in San Antonio, Texas.
Casarez graduated from the University of Southern California and received her Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles. While in law school, she won first place in a statewide Moot Court competition and assisted in preparing a Writ of Certiorari for the United States Supreme Court. She also clerked with the Nevada firm of Gallagher and Tratos while a law student.
