A Florida mother is charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the shooting deaths of her children inside their Tampa home in January 2011.
Police say Julie Schenecker armed herself with a .38 caliber revolver and shot her 13-year-old son Beau Schenecker in the head twice.
Afterwards, investigators say the mother walked up behind her 16-year-old daughter Calyx Schenecker, while she did homework on the computer and shot her in the back of the head then once in the face.
The alleged motive? Authorities say Schenecker told police she killed her children because they talked back and were being “mouthy.”
Earlier this month, prosecutors announced Schenecker will not face the death penalty because of mental health issues.
A jury has been seated. Schenecker's trial gets under way Monday.
