Nerds used to be associated with taped glasses and pocket protectors.
But these days, nerds seem to bring billion-dollar companies and hit TV shows to mind.
"Star Trek" actor Wil Wheaton had some inspiring words for kids who are called nerds when he spoke at the Denver Comic Con last June.
A girl at the event asked Wheaton whether he was called a nerd when he was young and how he handled it.
Wheaton eloquently responded, “Don’t let a person make you feel bad because you love something they decided was only for nerds."
“It has nothing to do with you. It’s about them feeling bad about themselves. They feel sad. They don’t get positive attention from their parents. They don’t feel as smart as you."
Wheaton let the young girl know that “it absolutely gets better as you get older."
And it definitely seems like Wheaton is correct. Here are a few examples of why it's not so bad to be a nerd.
