Meet Rasta. At least that’s what the folks at the Society for the Protection of Animals in Quebec (Société Protectrice des Animaux de Québec) called this little guy when they rescued him.
Rasta was brought to the SPA after he was found in a wooded area. Denys Pelletier, the SPA general director, told HLN Tuesday that the shih tzu was about 10 years old at the time of rescue and had probably been a stray for several months prior.
Pelletier said the pup was completely covered in matted hair and mud. So much so, it took six employees three hours to get rid of Rasta’s dreads, which weighed as much as the dog itself! Upon arrival, Rasta weighed about 17 pounds; after grooming, only 9!
At first, Rasta had difficulty walking, so he spent some time at a veterinary clinic and foster home to get healthier. About two months after his rescue, Rasta got adopted and still lives with his new family today. Pelletier told HLN Rasta’s doing great in his new home.
The dog was originally rescued in 2011, but these unbelievable photos of his transformation recently went viral. Scroll through the gallery above for more of Rasta’s story.
