Oh, Target. What did thigh and armpit skin ever do to hurt you? From a few of the pictures on the retailer's website, you'd think the organic human form was going out of style.
The retouching blunders are laughably obvious (we're talking jagged lines into rear ends and random, sharp pieces dangling from armpits), but the discovery comes at a bad time for the store. Target has been recently been blasted for seemingly phasing out their plus-size lines in stores (Target says they are just making room for a revamped line), and using a picture of a pregnant woman modeling a plus-sized dress on their site.
Let's give Target the benefit of the doubt: There are hundreds upon hundreds of pictures on its site, and only a handful look like they were cut up by Playskool scissors. In fact, this may not have been a big deal if some influential players hadn't pointed it out. Cassey Ho, a popular fitness and body positivity personality, posted a few screen caps on her Facebook page and blog Tuesday morning. The post got hundreds of shares, and before long, other publications were getting in on the fun. Some of the offending images were taken down a few hours later, but others remained on the website.
In response to the flap, a representative from Target told HLN, "we apologize and are working to address this issue on our site."
