Kelly Dwyer seems to have vanished into thin air. The 27-year old failed to turn up for her shift at clothing store Lululemon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 12 and has not been heard from again. Her family and friends are fighting for answers, recently offering a $10,000 reward for information.
The last person known to have seen Kelly, her alleged boyfriend Kris Zocco, has since been charged with multiple counts of child pornography possession and drug violations in unrelated cases. Currently free on $250,000 bail, Zocco has said he last saw Kelly at his apartment on the morning of October 11, according to Dwyer’s mother.
Surveillance cameras near Zocco's apartment building show Kelly enter but police have not found video of her leaving, HLN affiliate WTMJ reported.
The charges against Zocco came as a shock to Kelly’s family and friends.
“As far as we knew, he was an upstanding citizen, had a good job, paid his bills, that’s all I knew about him,” Kelly’s mother, Maureen Dwyer, told reporters.
Zocco has not been named a suspect in Kelly’s disappearance. He has pleaded not guilty to the child pornography and drug charges.
Zocco’s attorney, Michael Levine, declined to comment on his current charges or Dwyer’s disappearance at this time.
At a court appearance for the drug charges, a Milwaukee Police Department detective testified that Zocco had told her he and Dwyer partied together the night before she went missing, drinking, smoking marijuana and doing lines of cocaine.
The Kelly Dwyer allegedly described by Zocco to police is in stark contrast to the bubbly young woman described by her family and friends. Tony Dwyer told HLN his daughter is hard working and friendly, loved yoga and had many friends.
“She’s the happiest kid in the world,” Tony said. “She’s really fun to be around. She’s very healthy, energetic.”
Stephanie, a woman who met Kelly in a yoga class last year, shared a similar description of her friend.
“She is a really outgoing person in the sense that she makes friends with a lot of people,” she said. “That’s why she’s so successful. She has an interesting and interested personality.”
“She’s really into the yoga scene and Pilates,” Stephanie said. “She’s not a wild party animal, that’s just not true.”
Investigators searched a nearby landfill and recovered potential evidence, but have not specified what those items are. While the trail has gone cold, Kelly’s friend Stephanie hopes for answers.
“There has to be an answer somewhere. Kelly has to be somewhere,” Stephanie said. “She isn’t just gone.”
