Amid rumors of substance abuse and marital strife, Lamar Odom pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a driving under the influence charge related to an incident that occurred in California in August.
The former NBA player did not appear in court Tuesday. His attorney entered the not guilty plea on his behalf.
Odom was arrested August 30 on a DUI charge after a California highway patrolman allegedly noticed him driving in a "serpentine manner at 50 mph" at 3 a.m. The patrolman pursued Odom for about three miles before the basketball star finally came to a stop, according to the police report.

Odom "showed signs of intoxication and was unable to perform field sobriety tests," according to police. He also refused all chemical tests when he arrived at the LAPD Van Nuys Jail, police said.
In 2001, Odom admitted to violating the NBA's drug policies twice.
"I've made a couple [of mistakes] and I may make a couple again, but hopefully they won't be as big as this one," Odom said at the time during a press conference.
Five days before his August arrest, Khloe Kardashian, Odom's wife, tweeted her frustrations regarding reports that her husband was struggling with an addiction to pain medications.
"Really hard to sit here and listen to people talk [expletive] about my family! [Expletive] you and shame on you! I'm too protective for this [expletive]!" the reality star tweeted August 25.
Odom, who has played for four teams -- the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers -- in his NBA career has not signed with a team this year.
