"Weekend Squee" exists solely to fill your life with cute animals.
What do you get when you take prom, subtract the pressure, teenage awkwardness and sweat, and add a healthy dose of furballs and tiny tiaras?
You get doggie prom, and doggie prom beats regular prom any day.
Best Friends Pet Care, a company that provides boarding, grooming, training and doggie day camp at locations all over the country, has hosted 38 doggie proms this year, with a total of 1,200 furry attendees.
"We’ve never done it on quite this scale. We've done some doggie proms in past years, and the clients absolutely love it, so we decided this year to absolutely blow it out," said Deb Bennetts, a spokeswoman for BFPC.
Clearly, by the looks of it, the pets' parents love the event just as much as the dogs. And that, said Deb, is exactly what they're hoping for.
"Pets are part of the family, and they love these things because it gives the parents an opportunity to be engaged with what their dogs are doing all the time."
As for this year's soirees, Deb says the proms were "Sadie Hawkins," as in, the girl doggies had to ask the boy doggies. "All of the dogs had their photos taken, and we took their prom attire off so they could run around and play for the rest of the day. Even our staff dressed up!"
It's true that we always want the best for our pets, and if the best comes in the form of adorable get-ups and a night of dog dancing, then it's a total win-win.
"In our culture today, the dogs are family members," Deb says. "And when we can't take them, we want to make sure that they are happy and well cared for."
