Fred Neulander was convicted of paying two men to kill his wife at his family’s New Jersey home in 1994. In his statement to the jury before his 2002 sentencing, Rabbi Neulander said, “I am here to offer a plea for my life… . You must believe I loved her… . Ladies and gentlemen, if you give me this privilege to redeem, to atone, what will happen is the days of the years of your life will indirectly be made more rich because you've given me the privilege in the days of the years of my life to reach out and change for the better.” Neulander was sentenced to life in prison.
