We're not sure if diamonds are really a girl's best friend, but there's one thing for sure: Big fancy rings get people's attention.
Case in point: The engagement ring that Napoleon Bonaparte gave to Joséphine de Beauharnais has sold for $949,000, which is 50 times what French auction house Osenat expected the ring to go for. Just a simple band with a single diamond and a sapphire set side by side, perhaps the most entrancing thing about the ring is its 18th century setting, called "toi et moi" in French, which translates to "you and me."
Whether amorous men made their statements through setting, size or sheer audacity, there have been many jaw-dropping engagement rings offered up over the years. Which ones reign supreme in the celeb world?
