On June 9, 2008, Travis Alexander’s decomposing body was discovered in the shower of his Mesa, Arizona, home.
Alexander had been stabbed 29 times, and shot in the face, his throat was slit from ear to ear.
A little more than a month later, Alexander’s ex-girlfriend, Jodi Arias, was charged with his murder.
Despite being confronted with physical evidence that police said placed her at the crime scene, Arias initially insisted she was not involved with the murder.
After spending a night in jail, Arias changed her story, telling police she was with Alexander when two people broke into his home and killed him, but let her live.
When her trial began in January 2013, Arias changed her story again, admitting she killed her ex-boyfriend, but claimed it was self-defense.
Earlier this month, Arias took the stand in her own defense, graphically testifying about her sex life with Alexander, claiming the victim was an abusive, sexual deviant.
Tuesday, Arias’ defense attorney’s played a phone sex conversation between Arias and Alexander that was recorded less than a month before he was killed.
On the stand, Arias sobbed and often put her head down in embarrassment as the recording was played in open court.
