Best known for her role on Disney’s “Wizards of Waverly Place,” Selena Gomez is now breaking out of the Disney mold for her racy new role in “Spring Breakers.”
The 20-year-old said when she was approached by director Harmony Korine to do the film -- which is about a bunch of college girls that will do anything to party it up on spring break -- she saw it as a chance to try something different. “I definitely felt that with my first stepping-out role, I should choose something that I could understand a little more. I was really nervous,” Gomez told NYLON magazine for its February issue.
Even though Gomez is trying to redefine herself onscreen, she does acknowledge her bad girl image in “Spring Breakers” would not fly in real life. She admits to NYLON that, in the film, she is doing things that she “would get so much hate and in trouble for.”
