Happy 30th, Hummer! 11 other brands that vanished

Can you believe it was 30 years ago that the super-sized, gas-guzzling Hummers first came into our lives?! Take a moment of silence with us as we remember some other long-lost favorites brands.

On March 22, 1983, the Pentagon gave the go-ahead for the first High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). It was nicknamed the Humvee and cost the government more than a billion dollars to make 55,000 of these big boys.

While originally meant to transport troops, these gas-guzzlers eventually made their way into the civilian market. In 1992, the Hummer went on sale. But when things headed south with the economy, General Motors had to cut production of the Hummer. The last Hummer H3 rolled off the line in May 2010.
