Twenty years ago today, a computer programmer named Pierre Omidyar founded a little site called AuctionWeb. The first item sold there was a broken laser pointer for $14.83 -- perhaps a sign to come that eBay would one day become the place to buy odd unwanted things.
Today, eBay has 800 million listings at any given time. It also has sold some remarkably weird items, including Justin Timberlake's half-eaten french toast for $1,025 and a cornflake shaped like the state of Illinois for $1,350. And that's only so far. We're guessing that more unusual items are being uploaded as we speak.
