On September 11, 1970, America was introduced to a vehicle that would revolutionize the auto industry -- the Ford Pinto.

Then-Ford executive Lee Iacocca wanted a subcompact that you could buy for under $2,000. In its first year, more than 400,000 were sold, but fuel tank issues quickly led to its demise.
