Fashionistas, time to sharpen your style knives.
Let’s dive into the fashion “hits and misses” at the People’s Choice Awards. Last night’s fashions were a mashup of grace and lace, chic and ICK -- ranging from red-carpet flair to Plain Jane coverups.
First, an evening gown compared to a bad 70s haircut???!!!. That’ll get ‘em talking.
The Los Angeles Times says, “Footloose” star Julianne Hough’s dress is the “fashion equivalent of a mullet” -- business in the front, party in the back. This is the dress that everyone is buzzing about -- love it or hate it. The New York Daily News raves Hough’s dress was the “best of the night.”
Moving on: Jennifer Lawrence may have been channeling the ocean with her aqua-blue dress covered with waves and fishnets. Waves+Fishes+Ocean =Evening Gown? Maybe if you are Ariel the Mermaid. Not if you are human.
We’re not sure what Kelly Osbourne was thinking with her long orange skirt. Maybe “Little House on the Prairie”? Check out the white lacy top -- so fresh and innocent? Like something a 12-year-old girl would have worn … in the 1880s.
In the “likey” category:
"Vampire Diaries” Nina Dobrev glowed in a classy green Elli Laab dress with long sheer sleeves, dotted with lace. Also, she scored “Favorite TV Drama Actress” award.
“Twilight” actress Ashley Greene is getting style raves for her custom-made black leather-and-lace dress by DKNY. Greene took “the definition of a little black dress in a whole new way,” the Examiner gushes.
Chloe Grace Moretz, 14, wore a green-and-black mini dress and “managed to look both age appropriate and subtly hip,” says Celebritynewsandstyle.com. She won "Favorite Movie Star Under 25."
Vanessa Hudgens isn’t so Disney anymore – she wowed ‘em in a webbed Jenny Packham black dress with a plunging neckline. The Daily Mail says Hudgens “looked stunning” and the black dress “added extra glamour with gold spiderweb detail and a flowing train.”
Then, sometimes a gal manages to get on the “Likey” and “Fashion Flop” list on the very same night! “Favorite Pop Artist” award winner Demi Lovato dazzled in red -- and perplexed us in peach. What is that gold stuff on the peach dress? An exterior bra of some sort? Is she trying out for the Ice Capades?
Of course, here’s an honorary style hat tip to Katy Perry, who backed out of the People’s Choice awards at the last minute … perhaps nursing her wounds from her recent split from hubby Russell Brand. Perry surely would have made someone’s style list with her distinctive style. Even in absentia, Perry won five People’s Choice awards last night. More than anyone else!
