New meningitis deaths

As new details surrounding the fungal meningitis outbreak come out, the death toll is up to seven people.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the outbreak has spread to 64 people in nine states.

At the center of the outbreak is a steroid shot that many patients received in the base of their spine to help alleviate chronic pain.  The epidural injection may be contaminated with a fungus. Health officials say three shipments of the steroid were sent to 76 clinics in 23 states. Now, doctors and medical facilities are trying to track down patients that may have been injected with the tainted shot.
