Some women thrive on tearing others down ("Mean Girls," anyone?), but that's so 2004 it hurts. We seem to be in a new era of love and self-acceptance, which means it's not cool to be the bully anymore. (It never was, honestly.)
A hashtag called #20beautifulwomen is helping us follow that new curve. Spawned from the release of a book by the same name by author Saba Tekle, she used the hashtag for a totally different reason -- to promote her work.
Even though Tekle didn't challenge anyone with the hashtag or lay out rules about tagging other women you find beautiful, she told HLN she is happy that a project about positive self-image has spawned from it, as her book also features powerful and inspiring stories about awesome women.
"I love it, either way. It'll just bring more attention to the book!" she said.
The hashtag challenge has taken off, and many women are on the hunt to tag 20 other women that they find beautiful. Instagram is where it really picked up steam. A lot of women are taking it seriously. But of course, there are also the trolls.
Of course, for every hater, there were twice the number of supporters.
Uplifting trend, or excuse for more selfies? You be the judge.
