With parts of Texas and Oklahoma already waterlogged, rain will continue in East Texas along with flash flood warnings all over the Houston area. Doppler says 3-11 inches of rain could fall in just a few hours for the region. The heaviest is in Louisiana and then Mississippi. The system will weaken but more storms will fire this afternoon producing more rain.

This rainmaker now extends north into the Midwest. A good impulse is moving from the Plains to Western Great Lakes by this afternoon. Winds and hail are the main threat for the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes.

Big Arctic high pressure responsible for Thursday's extreme cold is anchored from Kentucky to Texas. Wind chill warnings and advisories take up a lot of acreage. Over 171 million people are under a wind chill advisory and 11.5 million under a wind chill warning.

Snow and wind will make it to the Upper Midwest later Thursday afternoon. Blizzard warnings are in place in North Dakota and Minnesota. It's not much snow, but lots of wind and blowing snow.
