Salute is from a proud uncle to his nephew whom he calls "yard dawg."

Ricky Jackson says, his nephew, Sergeant Kevin Richburg is in Afghanistan right now.

When Kevin was younger, he was called "bird dog" but his uncle thought… Kevin was tougher than that. So he changed his nickname to "yard dawg."

He says he wants Kevin to know the whole family loves him and misses him.

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Shameka McCloud of the 335^th Signal Command in East Point, Georgia is a hard-working soldier, and devoted mom of a teenage daughter.  Given those qualifications we asked her to be a guest on Morning Express with Robin Meade to speak about her military experience... but here's the catch... there was no interview. This was a "Stories of Courage: The Give Back" makeover ambush!

We isolated SSG McCloud in a room and told her a producer would be coming up to walk her down to Studio H for her interview... but instead HLN's Robin Meade walked in with camera crew and surprised McCloud with a special day of pampering.

We were thrilled to be a part of a special surprise this morning for Sergeant 1st Class Casandra Sanders.

Sgt. Sanders is one of the 70,000 American service members who are single parents. Her two daughters Kiera and Jade have already been away from their mom during a deployment to Kuwait in 2005. Now the family is facing a second deployment, possibly to Afghanistan next year... so in order to make sure they get as much together-time as possible before that happens we teamed up with Operation G.I. Jane, an organization that provides support for single moms who serve in the military.

Talk about putting your music where your mouth is. Little Big Town played for the Troops in Afghanistan. So glad to have them on the set to salute the troops.
