Teens literally lighting themselves on fire

Teenagers across the country are dousing their bodies in flammable liquids, lighting themselves on fire, filming it, and posting that video on the internet.  This is not a premise from Mike Judge’s terrifyingly prescient film “Idiocracy” or a fictional trend from the next dystopian young adult book series:  this is real life.  And one 16-year-old California teen is suffering the very real consequences.

Fernando Valencia sustained second- and third-degree burns after participating in the “fire challenge” last Friday.  Fortunately, his injuries are not life threatening, and now he’s warning others not to participate in this dangerous "game."  Many other teenagers have been seriously injured, and 15-year-old James Shores even died last month after attempting the fire challenge.
