A Phoenix, Arizona, teen got a new set of wheels, thanks to a police officer's warm act of kindness.

According to HLN affiliate KNXV, Phoenix police Sgt. Natalie Simonick stopped 18-year-old Christian Felix late one night because she thought he might have been violating curfew. It turned out Felix was walking 6 miles home from his job at McDonald's after missing the bus. Simonick said she was impressed with his work ethic and earnestness.

The family told WPLG that at first they thought it was a Mother's day prank. However, the alligator was very real. The home is in the Parkland community, which is north of Miami, and near the everglades.

Dead teen's mom on Collins tribute: 'It made me cry'

The 1998 beating death of Matthew Shepard shook the nation. The Wyoming University student was killed by two men who prosecutors say targeted Shepard because he was gay. 

Since his death, Matthew's parents Judy and Dennis Shepard have worked hard for LGBT rights. In 2009, Congress passed the "Matthew Shepard & James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Law" The legislation makes it easier for state and federal authorities to investigate and prosecute alleged hate crimes.
