Former Lafayette, Louisiana doctor, Richard Schmidt, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for attempted murder after he injected his ex-mistress, Janice Trahan Allen, with the AIDS virus.
"I deal daily with the harsh side effects of the medications and take one day at a time coping with my illnesses," Allen said in a statement to HLN. "I am disabled and unable to work. I have been blessed in many ways and Jerry and I just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. My husband, children & grandchildren give me many reasons to live."
Last year, Schmidt was up for parole. That request was denied.
